A gaijin (31) living in Adachi Ward has been informing women since early February that in his home country “the men do the giving” on Valentine’s Day.
“Actually, where I’m from, the men give gifts on Valentine’s Day,” Derek Walton told about twenty-three women over the past week.
Without fail, the women hearing this factoid – evidently for the first time – subsequently associate the chivalrous Western convention with Walton’s gaijin face.
Walton, however, will not be purchasing any gifts for Valentine’s Day while presiding in Japan as he naturally respects customs in foreign countries.
A list of females that gave Walton chocolates for Valentine’s Day will be kept in his little black book for future reference for White Day.
