Japan will submit the recently discovered leaning condo of Yokohama to UNESCO for registration as a world heritage site.
The tilting condo in Kanagawa Prefecture is almost guaranteed to be admitted to the World Heritage List following the successful submission of a mountain in 2013.
The building has been deemed culturally significant as the region of the condo site was said to be briefly looked at on an Edo period map by eminent samurai Sakamoto Ryoma.
“This site is of cultural importance having once been projected from a map onto the eyeballs of the great Sakamoto Ryoma,” a government official said.
Cultural tours of the site are scheduled to begin next Spring.
