Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday the government is considering designating May 1 in 2019, when Crown Prince Naruhito will ascend the throne, as a one-off holiday, in a move that would create a 10-day Golden Week vacation period and force many men to spend more time with their wives and children.

“It’s a disturbing prospect,” says NHK commentator Hiro Yuzawa.

“I haven’t spent more than three days in a row with my wife since the late ‘90s.”

Husbands throughout the nation have voiced their concerns over the consecutive amount of gold being offered to them for the imperial succession.

“That’s way more gold than I can handle,” says salaryman Yuto Nobutaka.

“At least with a couple of work days amongst the Golden Week period I’ll have a chance to catch up with one of my mistresses – at least spare me that bit of dignity.”
