Prime Minister Shinzo Abe struggled to know what to do with his hands when meeting with other world leaders at the G20 summit in Osaka.
“Do I hug, shake hands, kiss, or double kiss?” a frustrated Abe asked his interpreter on several occasions.
“I’m not sure what to do with my hands.”
Abe met awkwardly with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, but knew exactly what to do with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“Xi knew the score – no touching involved,” Abe told close aides.
“Why does everyone else feel the need to touch one another?” Abe asked.
“It’s not like we’re in a crowded train.”
