Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reportedly sent a ritual offering to a local kyabakura on Wednesday but “did not visit in person”, according to major media outlets.
Abe still owed some money from the other night.
Ruling Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Masahiko Shibayama, who made the offering on Abe’s behalf, said the prime minister asked him to pray for the souls of the girls, and that he would be in again later in the week.
Shibayama remained at the bar well into the night.
On the same day, a group of 50 lawmakers visited separate kyabakuras around Tokyo, including Upper House member and former welfare minister Hidehisa Otsuji and Masahisa Sato, senior vice foreign minister.
