Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested an American national for allegedly shooting a license fee collector for public broadcaster NHK with a gun, according to NHK news.
At 4:54 p.m. on Saturday evening, the suspect, a 44-year-old male American, allegedly gave the NHK fee collector a taste of freedom in the form of a bullet to the left ankle.
The suspect has told police “Nihongo tabemasen”, although neighbors reported hearing the man scream at the NHK fee collector, “Shitsukoiyo, omae!”
The suspect was then seen carrying the NHK fee collector to the local garbage collection area and carefully placing him in the burnable items zone.
“I told him I didn’t have a television but he kept asking for yen, so I gave him a freedom deposit,” the suspect reportedly told police.
The NHK collector is in a stable condition in hospital still filling out copious amounts of forms, the Aichi City Police Station said.
