The mind of a foreign man living in Kyoto has been blown after being told miso, soy sauce, and tofu are all made from the same bean.
“The soybean is fermented to give you all of these wonderful foods and natto,” says local Japanese man Jiro Kikuchi.
Kikuchi divulged another deep Japan secret informing Kevin Wilson that “the edamame is the soybean”.
Wilson asked “Maji?” five times before accepting the statement as fact.
“But why would you turn such a magical bean into something as putrid as natto?” thought Wilson.
“Maybe they were thinking, we can make soy sauce, we can make miso, we can make tofu, and we can also eat it straight as an edamame bean, but there’s clearly something lacking like something that smells like shit.”
