Japan’s Imperial Household Agency announced on Monday Emperor Akihito will be given the English title of “Kevin” after he abdicates on April 30.
“Mr. Kevin is looking forward to retiring and continuing to live at home with his children,” said Imperial Household Agency spokesman Meiwaku Ninaru.
The agency says Empress Michiko will be referred to as “Lucy”.
“We selected these titles because they are really cool.”
Crown Prince Naruhito, or “Leslie”, will ascend to the throne on May 1.
