A correspondence between two strangers in Tokyo today lasted a total of around 420 seconds before the gaijin capitulated and reverted to his native English language.
Casual bystanders said both sides displayed courageous levels of resilience but the away team was unable to pull off an unlikely victory.
“I just couldn’t crack him – every time I went in with some Japanese, he just came back harder with a flurry of English counter punches,” the gaijin said.
The man now intends to begin an intensive Japanese language-training course in preparation for upcoming battles.
“Focusing solely on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) just doesn’t prepare you for these clashes – it doesn’t even have an oral component,” he said.
