A man returning home to the west after spending the better part of the last decade in Japan has found himself to be a raging sexist.
“What happened?” Fred Wright asked a white friend who also experienced a 5-year stint teaching English in Japan.
“One decade I’m telling hilarious jokes such as calling out someone for throwing a ball like a girl, and then the next second I’m classified as a sexist.”
“Yeah, me too,” replied Wright’s mate.
Wright believes people need to “grow a thick skin” and not be so sensitive.
“I’m upset that I have to actually think about what I say because of my privileged position in society – I’m deeply offended by this.”
Wright has also discovered he is now a raging racist.
“What? I can’t even make fun of Chinese people now?” he asks.
“I’m so hurt right now.”
