Human-Pokemon hybrids will be developed in Japan after the government approved controversial stem-cell research.
Human cells will be grown in Pikachu embryos, then brought to term in a surrogate animal, as part of experiments to be performed at the University of Tokyo.
“The first ever Pocket Monster hybrid will be a salaryman-pikachu,” says leading scientist Hiromitsu Nakauchi.
Supporters say the scientific development could be a vital first step towards increasing the working population.
“Salarypikachu will remain under high security protection because many people will be trying to catch it,” says Nakauchi.
Nakauchi says the first batch of hybrids will ultimately be employed at konbinis to cover late night shifts.
