The Japanese government has commissioned the production of ID helmets for foreigners visiting Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“We need to keep track of who is foreign and who isn’t, so we’ve come up with the ID helmet.”
Local police will be able to more effectively monitor aliens via their helmets.
“Foreigners won’t have to put up with the hassle of being stopped on the street for ID, they will just have to wear a helmet whenever they go out in public,” says foreign minister Taro Kono.
Kono says the first 1,000 visitors into Japan in 2020 will receive their very own ID helmet free of charge. Subsequent visitors will be taxed 700 yen per helmet.
