The government said Thursday it was facing a mounting load of plastic waste after China stopped accepting foreign waste imports.
“We’ve started producing giant plastic bags to solve the problem,” Japanese environment minister Kouichi Yamamoto told reporters.
“’Nai’ is not in our vocabulary, if we put our minds to it we can solve this crisis.”
“Mottai aru!” said Yamamoto.
The government will consider dumping “safe”, “processed” plastic into the ocean at a later date.
By placing plastics in huge blue plastic bags Japan will be able to divert the problem for at least one decade.
