Japan has drawn with Abunai overnight with much of the population staying up until the early hours to make sure their players got through the game alive.
Japan’s Keisuke Honda scored the equaliser from a Takashi Inui cross to level the scores at 2-2 in the 78th minute.
“I’m just happy they survived,” said one Blue Samurai fan.
“Sugoi! I’m just relieved no one died,” said another Japanese supporter.
The Japanese squad has confirmed none of their players were shot during the match.
Japanese fans in Russia attending the game said they felt very unsafe surrounded by hundreds of Abunai supporters in the stadium.
“Thankfully, Russia demonstrated progressive thinking with both supporter groups being partitioned off into separate areas,” said 28-year-old soccer fan Shintaro Yamashita.
Yamashita was allured in the 76th minute into buying one gram of crack cocaine.
