Japan’s productivity rate grew at 1.4 per cent in the October-December quarter, government data showed Thursday, following the removal of pornography magazines from several convenience store chains across the country.

“We’ve managed to eradicate one of the last remaining vehicles for escapism, which has now enabled salarymen to have a greater focus on the real task at hand,” says Toshimitsu Motegi, minister in charge of economic and fiscal policy.

This is the first time in over a decade that Japan has successfully made salarymen’s lives even more mundane.

“We’ve managed to squeeze out the last tiny bit of productivity from our salarymen,” says Motegi.

More to come.
