Japan’s Miss Universe representative, 22-year-old Yuumi Kato, who was crowned Miss Universe Japan 2018 in March, has chosen a schoolgirl uniform as the national costume for her country.
After months of preparation for the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Bangkok on December 17, Kato debuted her schoolgirl costume at a press event in Tokyo last week.
She cosplayed the school uniform down the catwalk, receiving enthusiastic applause from ojisans in the audience.
Kato will be appearing at Miss Universe dressed as a schoolgirl.
Kato’s manager, who scouted her at Harajuku when she was 11-years-old, says the schoolgirl outfit was a wise choice.
“There’s nothing that says girl power like a woman in school uniform,” says Kato’s manager, 71-year-old Naoto Sukebe.
