Naomi Osaka has lost her Japanese identity to Czech fourth seed Karolina Pliskova in the Pan Pacific Open final today in Tokyo.
The Japanese half of Naomi Osaka hit a series of unforced errors and showed none of the poise and power that secured her Japanese half her first Grand Slam title.
“She’s Haitian to us,” said Japan.
“We’re taking our Osaka kanji back.”
Japan will now use katakana when referring to Naomi Osaka.
