A 61-year-old NHK employee failed to deliver thousands of threats that he had kept to himself, police said Thursday.
A total of about 24,000 undelivered threats were found to be deep within the man’s conscience, according to Kanagawa Prefecture police.
“I was tasked with dispensing hundreds of intimidating ultimatums a month,” the man told police.
NHK fired the man after the issue came to light late last year and it apologised to the government for failing to coerce employees into coercing citizens to hand over their hard-earned yen.
If convicted, the man faces fines of up to 500,000 yen (US$4,500) or prison time of less than three years where he will be “coerced into watching cooking programs on NHK”, the police spokesman said.
