Kai, the iconic white dog, has died after featuring in too many TV commercials for mobile carrier SoftBank Corp.
He was aged 16, the equivalent of 112 human years and continued to work over 45 hours a week until his death on set.
Kai was loved by audiences in Japan nationwide for his cute gestures in his role as the hilarious father in the fictional Shirato family.
The commercials started airing in 2007 and Kai has been working overtime ever since.
In a statement, SoftBank said it was very grateful for Kai’s work and “prayed for his body and soul to rest in peace”, which was sold to a restaurant in Chinatown for a good price of 1,999 yen per 100 gram.
