A train scheduled to leave Minami Nagareyama Station at 9:44 a.m. on the Tsukuba Express Line from Tokyo to Ibaraki Prefecture on Tuesday departed 20 seconds earlier at 9:43:40.
Tsukuba Express management issued an official apology on the company’s website saying they promptly relieved the conductor of his duties:
“We deeply apologize for the severe inconvenience imposed upon our customers and this will not happen again as Takeshita-san has already left us on his own journey to another world.”
Takeshita-san was allowed to perform his final pointings to confirm his seppuku tools were all in order and his family members were present.
The seppuku ritual was carried out at exactly 9:44 a.m. this morning to the sounds of five different loud speakers precisely explaining each step of the process.
Takeshita-san’s family was charged for all seppuku-related costs.
