Typhoon Shanshan has turned out to be a major disappointment and is now expected to travel north constituting little more than a few showers and a light breeze.
Japanese media organizations say they were frustrated by the lack of high gale-force winds to pump up the ratings on the evening news.
“It couldn’t even turn most umbrellas inside out,” said Fuji TV representative Yuji Suzuki.
Foreigners in Japan were hoping the typhoon would cause major disruptions so they could get off work, but all English classes will run as scheduled.
There are no reports of major damage although some alerts remain in place.
