TOKYO — A leading Liberal Democratic Party official on Tuesday criticized “women striving for equality” as being “selfish”.

“Now they want childcare, next they’ll be depriving a good man out of a job – it’s a slippery slope,” said LDP Secretary-General Toshihiro Nikai.

“Women want more childcare so they can attain better jobs and improve their standing in society – this kind of selfish attitude will only diminish the disproportionate power men have in Japan.”

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government has sought to propagandize women’s empowerment through words promoting an increase in the number of women in the workplace as a key pillar of his government’s growth strategy, while simultaneously refusing to increase the number of daycare facilities.

“So far, we have been able to strike a careful balance between arguing that it is too hard to build more buildings and employ more people to look after children, at the same time as we successfully launch intelligence gathering satellites into orbit,” says Nikai.

“Women should stick to what they do best and that’s making babies – I’ve done my bit, God knows how many illegitimate children I’ve helped create.”
