The world’s oldest person, a 117-year-old Japanese woman, has died, and is survived by her husband who is still working for the man.

Nabi Tajima, who was born on 4 August 1900, died in hospital in the town of Kikai in southern Japan on Saturday, officials said, while her husband was giving directions to pedestrians with a lightsaber.

“Now I get paid in yen, I used to get paid in bags of rice,” said 116-year-old Karou Tajima.

The US-based Gerontology Research Group said another Japanese woman, Chiyo Miyako, is now the world’s oldest person – her husband passed away on the job when he was 107.
